Abstract

The authors share knowledge and experience about the importance of sensory grounding

as a first-response treatment tool for psychological trauma at all levels of individual and

group therapy and in all settings. In this article, sensory grounding is discussed as being

antecedent to other clinical methods. Empirical research is referenced that supports sensory

integration and the use of psychodrama to aid in sensory-based grounding for traumatized

clients. Case examples demonstrate how psychodrama can assist clients with childhood

trauma to gain ego strength by integrating the safety created by sensory objects and

transitioning that into a mindful and resourced consciousness.
