Abstract

The purpose of this article is to (a) acknowledge Moreno’s merits as the founder of the

Group Encounter Movement; (b) review a few ambiguities, contradictions, and backbiting

that were evident in the Group Encounter Movement; (c) to identify Moreno as a pioneer in

grounding and setting the stage for group psychology and group psychotherapy as an

evidence-based therapy; and (d) pinpoint and recognize Moreno as the forerunner of our

web-based social network media in virtual communities. Moreno joins the long, illustrious

line of psychiatrists, psychologists, and group psychotherapists whose work continues to

have an impact long after they have departed this world.
