BRIEF REPORT: A Group Singing Warmup With the Chronic Mentally Ill

Difficulties with spontaneous interaction and experiencing deep feelings of isolation and of not being understood are among the many challenges that face persons with mental illness. These challenges are compounded by an awareness of societal stigma and prejudice against persons with psychiatric problems. For the mentally ill, the therapy group can become a safe place to risk sharing with and connecting with others who have similar problems.
